U/S SCAN OF BIO PHYSICAL PROFILE
At Hypro Diagnostics, a biophysical profile (BPS or BPP) is a vital test typically administered after 32 weeks of pregnancy, especially in situations of high-risk pregnancies or when there are irregular test results. This noninvasive and low-risk assessment employs ultrasound technology performed by our skilled pregnancy care providers to glean essential insights into the fetus’s health. The biophysical profile employs a scoring system based on four key areas: Body movement: Evaluating the fetus’s limb and body movements.
Muscle tone: Observing hand movements, arm or leg extensions, and muscle contractions.
Breathing movements: Monitoring continuous and rhythmic breathing patterns.
Amniotic fluid volume: Verifying the presence of an amniotic fluid pocket measuring at least 1 centimeter across and 2 centimeters vertically.
If there are shortcomings in one or more areas, our healthcare providers may recommend a nonstress test (NST) to assess heart rate accelerations. Alternatively, a modified biophysical profile, combining a nonstress test with an ultrasound assessment of amniotic fluid, may be offered as a comprehensive alternative to the complete biophysical profile. This meticulous evaluation is instrumental in guiding informed decisions about the fetus’s well-being at Hypro Diagnostics.
