A follicular study, also known as follicular monitoring or a follicular scan, involves closely tracking ovarian follicles through Transvaginal Sonography (TVS) scans. In the female reproductive system, which includes the uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes, and ovaries, the latter are positioned laterally in the ovarian fossa, divided into an outer cortex and an inner medulla. During each menstrual cycle lasting about 28 days, one ovarian follicle matures and is released, a process known as ovulation, occurring approximately 14 days before the next menstrual period. Post-ovulation, the ruptured follicle transforms into the corpus luteum, producing progesterone to prepare the endometrium for potential zygote implantation in case of fertilization. This cyclic hormonal dance and physiological changes characterize the intricate dynamics of female reproductive physiology.
