SKIN CLIP FOR AFB ( LEPRA BACILLUS )
Acid-fast bacillus (AFB) is a potent bacterium responsible for tuberculosis (TB) and various infections, especially the severe respiratory condition TB. TB transmission occurs through airborne particles when infected individuals cough or sneeze, impacting both lungs and other organs. TB can manifest as latent, with the presence of TB bacteria but no apparent symptoms, or active, presenting symptoms and contagiousness. AFB tests, vital for diagnosing active TB, specifically target the detection of AFB bacteria in sputum, a thick mucus from the lungs. These tests, including the smear with preliminary results in 1–2 days and the culture confirming TB but requiring 6–8 weeks for bacterial growth, are integral to medical diagnostics. Beyond TB diagnosis, AFB tests also identify other AFB-related infections, such as leprosy or those affecting individuals with compromised immune systems. Hypro Diagnostics recognizes the significance of these tests not only for TB diagnosis but also for monitoring ongoing treatments and assessing contagiousness, providing essential insights for effective medical management.
