This form is crucial for conducting the HIV DUO test, which aims to detect both HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies, along with the P24 antigen. It’s important to note that antibodies may not be detectable until 6 to 12 weeks post-exposure, with optimal detection within 12 months. The P24 antigen serves as an early indicator of HIV infection, allowing for quicker identification compared to tests solely targeting HIV antibodies. Familiarizing yourself with potential modes of transmission, such as unprotected sex, needle sharing, mother-to-baby transmission, and other routes, is vital for comprehensive testing. If you are experiencing symptoms such as fever, chills, nausea, rash, night sweats, muscle aches, oral thrush, sore throat, fatigue, unintentional weight loss, swollen lymph nodes, or mouth ulcers, it is strongly advised to undergo the HIV DUO test. Please be aware that individuals may be asymptomatic during the acute phase of infection.
