HERPES SIMPLEX I & II IGM
Herpes Simplex I & II IgM tests detect Immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies specific to Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 (HSV-1) and Type 2 (HSV-2). These antibodies are produced early in active infections, helping identify recent or acute cases. However, interpretation can be challenging, as IgM antibodies may persist after the initial infection. These tests are often used when there is suspicion of a new herpes infection, particularly in the presence of recent symptoms. Nevertheless, results should be approached with caution, and additional testing, such as IgG antibody testing, may be recommended for a more accurate assessment. Healthcare professionals can provide guidance on proper testing and interpretation based on individual circumstances.
