CSF FOR GRAM STAIN

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is a crucial fluid present in the brain and spinal cord, providing protection and facilitating nutrient exchange. Meanwhile, the Gram stain technique, developed by Hans Christian Gram, is a foundational microbiological method. It sorts bacteria into gram-positive and gram-negative categories based on their cell wall properties. Gram-positive bacteria possess robust peptidoglycan layers in their cell walls, retaining the primary stain, crystal violet. The addition of Lugol’s iodine solution strengthens this bond, enabling clearer differentiation and identification when observed through microscopy.
