This particular pyogenic bacterium tends to result in suppuration and the formation of abscesses, predominantly within the cervical lymph nodes. These nodes present as palpable ‘lumps’ upon observation. Alongside these prominent signs, affected cases might display symptoms like torticollis, discharge from nasal or ocular passages, breathing difficulties, cyanosis (bluish discoloration due to oxygen deficiency), urinary complications such as hematuria and hemoglobinuria, as well as swollen mammary glands, reproductive issues like abortions or stillbirths, and unexpected fatalities. Notably, the most common and often sole sign of this condition in otherwise healthy guinea pigs is the enlargement of cervical nodes, occasionally accompanied by inconspicuous upper respiratory infections.
