ANTI MITOCONDRYL ANTI BODY
Mitochondria are essential for cell energy production, vital for normal cellular function. Antimitochondrial antibodies (AMAs) signify an autoimmune reaction where the body attacks its own cells and tissues, mistaking them for foreign invaders. Elevated levels of these antibodies in the blood are identified through the AMA test. This test primarily aids in detecting an autoimmune disorder called primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), formerly termed primary biliary cirrhosis.
