ABSOLUTE NEUTROPHILS COUNT
The absolute neutrophil count (ANC) is a pivotal indicator of the body’s immune vigor, specifically reflecting the quantity of neutrophils within the bloodstream. Neutrophils, a type of white blood cell, play a critical role in defending against bacterial and fungal infections. Analyzed through a complete blood count (CBC) test, the ANC is measured in neutrophils per microliter (μL) of blood. Typically falling between 1,500 to 8,000 neutrophils per microliter, this count aids healthcare professionals in assessing immune function. Deviations from this range—either below or above—may suggest potential health issues. Low ANC levels (neutropenia) heighten susceptibility to infections, while elevated counts might indicate underlying infections, inflammatory conditions, or other health disorders.
