SERUM IMMUNO ELECTROPHORESIS
The IEP-serum test provides critical health insights through two key components. Initially, it evaluates the presence of abnormal immunoglobulins (Igs) in the blood. Normal Igs and levels may indicate no need for further testing. However, the identification of abnormal Igs suggests a potential underlying health condition. Notably, some individuals may have low levels of abnormal Igs without health implications, termed “monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance” or MGUS. Additionally, elevated levels of normal Igs can also point to an underlying health issue. Your doctor will interpret the results with you, guiding decisions on whether additional testing or treatment is warranted based on your specific health context.
